#1717247: "Demystifying AI: Making Autonomous Security Explainable"

Description: AI shouldn’t be a mystery. As organizations adopt AI-driven defenses, security teams need to understand and trust the decisions these tools make. This session debunks the “black box” myth: the idea that AI decisions are inherently opaque and unknowable. We’ll explore practical ways to bring transparency and auditability to detections, show what meaningful visibility looks like in AI security tools, and demonstrate how to interpret model-driven decisions. You'll gain a clearer understanding of how transparency can strengthen stakeholder trust and support the shift toward autonomous security without losing human oversight.

Speaker:
Ryan Devendoft, Staff Sales Engineer
Ryan Devendorf is a Staff Sales Engineer at Abnormal AI, where he brings over a decade of experience across the cybersecurity landscape, spanning incident response and sales engineering roles at RSA, ExtraHop, and now Abnormal AI. His expertise covers a wide range of security technologies, including SIEM, EDR, NDR, and email security. Ryan is a frequent speaker at industry events such as BSides, ISC², and ISSA, where he has presented on topics including threat hunting, evolving attack techniques, and building effective incident response practices.

Before joining Abnormal, Ryan supported security operations at Black Hat Las Vegas and Black Hat London during his time at RSA—experiences that left him with plenty of stories from those events. Outside of work, Ryan enjoys reading fantasy novels, hiking and skiing, and spending time with his Bernese Mountain Dog puppy.

Joseph Crehan, Sr. Enterprise Sales Engineer, Abnormal AI
Joseph Crehan is a Senior Sales Engineer at Abnormal AI. Before joining Abnormal, Joe held engineering roles at several leading organisations, including Barracuda Networks, Xiotech, and General Electric.
